Bonjour

We have been writing sentences about our bonhomme de neige and have started the good copy little by little.  Students are choosing to present their work on a poster or as a book.

You can view links to AJ performing our dance if your child would like to practice https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-zSnJnBAAzhdVC6lPYmUO4Z3BAA9j693

Bonjour

Thank you for sending in your animals pictures. Students were so proud to share information about them and their care with the class.
Students learned that domestic animals need 4 things to survive:
-water
-air
-food
-shelter

It has come to our attention that there is a "Stealing club" in grade one and that objects have been going missing. Mostly in other classes. Although I don't believe any of our students were involved, it turned out they did know about the club's existence. Please help us by both speaking with your child and by leaving special toys, electronics and objects at home.

Bonjour

Tomorrow we are discussing how to take care of domestic animals. If you have an animal at home, please email me a picture.

Students are having lots of fun and learning all kinds of moves with AJ and M. Trevor. Our dance assembly is Monday at 5:30-6 in the gym. We hope you can make it!

Home reading tonight: Où sont les trèfles? We are learning all sorts of new words for la Saint-Patrick. Which ones can your child tell you? Can your child come up with a sentence using one of two of the words?

Hand washing: Students are encouraged to wash their hands frequently throughout the day, especially before eating. They are also being taught to cough into their elbows and to avoid touching their faces (especially mouths).

Bonjour

Students really enjoyed the Calgary Opera this morning. Their behaviour and attention was fantastic!

Do you have a pet? If so, please email me a picture. We are going to be learning about the needs of domestic animals and I thought it would be fun for the kids to see their animals in a powerpoint (ideally before Thursday). Merci!

Bonjour

This week we will be reviewing the sounds ch, ou and oi. Please review the words for the past several weeks as I want to ensure students have a solid grasp of these complex sounds before we continue to add new ones.

In Science we grouped animals by a common characteristic. (They are all reptiles, they can all swim, they all have scales...). Ask your child about how they make an animal group.

Important Dates
Tuesday March 10: Calgary Opera presentation (please discuss audience manners)

March 16: Sounds Kreations performance 5:30-6:00
April 3: Grade 1 Bonhomme presentation in the gym (see invitation in previous Blogger post).

Bonjour

Today students go their first visit from Mme Maria (my mom!) who will be coming in each week to read with them in French.

Yesterday in Science we studied camouflage. Each student got a bug and had colour it so that it could be camouflaged in the classroom. Here is a selection! Why do animals use camouflage?

There are some tummy bugs and colds going around the school. Please review some hygiene tips at home about staying healthy: washing hands, keeping fingers out of mouthes, eyes, and noses, coughing into your sleeve, properly disposing of kleenexes etc. We did so this morning but the more times the hear it will hopefully help it stick! They are also asking about Corona virus and may have some questions (and misconceptions) about the virus. We have briefly discussed that currently no one in Calgary has Corona virus and not everyone in certain places  or of certain backgrounds has it, but that we need to be practicing some healthy habits. Here's a great link:

Merci!

Bonjour

The Sound Kreations residency began today! What a joy it is to see these kids dance.

In the pochette you will find some math work (see below) which can stay at home and a list of OU words for them to practice sounding out and reading, it can also stay at home.

Today we graphed the results of adding two dice. Students had to figure out which number they would roll the most often. We then examined the results and drew out a bell curve. (We've gone from grade 1 to grade 10!)

Lunchtime expectations
All students have been asked to review lunchroom procedures as behaviour could be improved. Please discuss the following:
-Students are to remain in their own seats.
-Hands, feet, items to self.
-Students are to clean up after themselves (garbage, crumbs and spills)
-Restaurant rules: quiet voices, walking
-Listen to and follow requests by the lunchroom supervisor

Important dates:
Wednesday: Library and a Visit from Elder Randy (I am away in the morning at a workshop)
March 16: Sound Kreations performance 5:30-6

Volunteers needed!
-Math Morning will be rescheduled as there is no school March 20th! Oops. Two date gaffes on one post! Sorry!

Field trip
May 4: all day Fort Calgary
My apologies (again) the Glenbow trip will be in May, not April! We are just confirming which classes will be going which days. I'll put out a call for volunteers when it is sorted.
